Luxury Home + Design

This coastal retreat at Moraya Bay captures the best of traditional and transitional beachfront living.

What’s old is new: Antique jars and an antique reproduction cocktail table take center stage in this Naples condo’s living room.

Round table:
This multi-use space is flanked to the left by a custom-built banquette, created by Michael Schmidt Custom Interiors. Designed to be more comfortable than the typical breakfast area, the banquette is a place to “lounge and do a puzzle, or have a conversation over a glass of wine,” says designer Renee Gaddis of Collins & DuPont Interior Design.

A sight to see: The unit’s original bar was higher, but Gaddis replaced it with a 38-inch one of butternut with a distressed finish to open the kitchen up toward views of the Gulf. Glass pendant lights by Laura Kirar serve a similar purpose. And in a nod to the environment, eco-friendly cabinets are installed throughout.

Good glowing:
The master bedroom appears to glow, thanks to multiple design elements (some off-the-water sunlight doesn’t hurt, either). Gaddis employed ceiling detail in a basket-weave pattern and antique mirrored furniture to lighten the room and reflect the view.

Land and water: The master bathroom’s shower and floors are done in vein-cut silver travertine by Artistone, which picks up the aqua hues of the water. Gaddis selected an emerald green quartz for the tub deck, upon which sit two antique chofa sculptures, decorative roof ornaments from a Buddhist temple.

Sink in: A large, comfortable sectional provides a cozy spot for watching TV, which is housed in a custom-built cabinet that backs up to the breakfast area’s built-in banquette.

Wave hello: A large mirror—somewhat unusual for outdoor use—reflects the sky and water of the condo’s premium location. Gaddis placed a long, low bowl on the cocktail table to provide a landing spot for shells gathered during walks on the beach below.

Double duty: Originally one large closet, this closet-study hybrid takes advantage of extra space. “My idea was to take part of the master closet and make it an office, so it was still private, but there are openings from the living room and the closet,” Gaddis explains. Custom cabinets by Hyland Cabinetry also create added storage space.
