The base of Palecek’s table lamp, available through Decorating Den in Bonita Springs, is made from hand-cut and hand-polished penshell, an abundant and quickly renewable resource. The raffia lampshade enhances its green factor, as does the manufacturer’s commitment to using nontoxic finishes. Priced at $300.

Water-Logged Wood
Arcadia’s DiFilippo & Kent specializes in designing furniture made from river-recovered and recycled woods, like this pecky cypress display table, crafted by Florida artisan George Ferreira from a tree that sank in the Suwannee River early in the last century. This one-of-a-kind piece is priced at $8,800.

Pine With a New Purpose
Without his glasses, Peter Kent counted up to 260 rings on the top of this Tabouret table, fashioned from a single slice of pine beam recycled from a 19th century building in Texas. He believes the tree was at least 300 years old before it was toppled. The legs are made from pine pulled from the Suwannee River in the 1990s. This table, priced at $1,600, and similar ones in different sizes and styles are available at DiFilippo & Kent in Arcadia.

Glass Acts
Bio-Glass has become all the rage for countertops, accent walls and up-lit staircases—and not just because it’s made from 100 percent recycled glass. Just watch what happens when light interacts with these shards of fused glass. Bio-Glass is available in six colors (blue and green are most requested) and can be purchased from StoneEXpress in Naples, which also features the less pricey Eco-Line, made from 75 percent recycled glass.

Recycle, Repurpose
Designer Peggy Oberlin and her Naples client were pleasantly surprised to discover the dull living room wall in his 1980s condo was actually a hidden treasure—beautiful old cypress that had been poorly installed as wallboard. Oberlin worked her magic, repurposing the wood into a herringbone pattern on the lanai and using the remainder as a cabinet front. Of course, we’re now all wondering what lurks under our carpeting or wallpaper.

Dream in Green
Legna Seville by SDH, shown here in cappuccino, envelops sleepers in a cocoon of so-soft fabric that’s opulent like silk but needs only the simple care of cotton. Woven in Italy, modal legna is Europe’s newest generation of cellulose yarn, culled from the wood pulp of strictly managed forests. Available at Gattle’s, Naples, the king-size sheet set (flat and fitted sheets, two shams) is priced at $1,200; the duvet cover is $756.
